Manual Therapy

The many methods and techniques of manual therapy all involve specifically directed manual force to the body in order to improve range of motion, relieve muscle tension and to reduce musculoskeletal pain.

Because our team is trained in a variety of massage and other manual therapy modalities; patients seeking manual therapy treatment are assured of receiving only the finest quality chiropractic care. Dr. Huey will carefully evaluate your condition before administering manual therapy treatment, which may include traction massage, deep tissue work, soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization and more.

All manual therapies performed are meant to reduce pain and encourage total body wellness. Additional benefits of manual therapy include spasm relief, cell metabolism, disc decompression and the reduction of nerve pressure and scar tissue.

Adjustment

According to a recent chiropractic article, 60 to 80 percent of the population in North America will suffer from back pain or injuries at some point during their lives, with one to five percent suffering from chronic back pain that lasts six months or longer. In order to address this common condition, Dr. Huey assesses your specific condition and implements the safest and most effective subluxation correction methods.

We at Huey Chiropractic provide advanced chiropractic manipulation and subluxation treatments by utilizing the latest chiropractic techniques and technology. Our chiropractic knowledge and experience performing spinal adjustments allow us to effectively correct the alignment of your vertebrae, resulting in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved body functionality.

Physiotherapy Modalities & Electrotherapy

Physiotherapy modalities and electrotherapy are commonly used in the treatment of many patients experiencing back, neck, arthritis and other musculoskeletal problems. In order to properly address our patients' ailments, Dr. Huey utilizes the latest chiropractic techniques and technology to determine the most effective therapeutic procedures for your unique condition.

Below are some of the most frequently prescribed electrotherapy and physiotherapy modalities:
  • Low-Level Laser Therapy
Low-level laser therapy is a safe method of dealing with a wide range of common soft tissue injuries and skeletal conditions. The outcome of low-level laser therapy depends upon a particular range of wavelengths, which accelerate the healing process by increasing the production of cellular energy and metabolism. By aiding cellular function, low-level laser therapy enables better healing and pain relief.
  • Muscle Stimulation
Muscle stimulation therapy administers low volt electrical pulses to specific areas of the body in order to stimulate motor nerves to cause muscle contractions, pain relief and/or to reduce inflammation. Electrical muscle stimulation is often used to prevent or reduce muscle atrophy.
  • TENS
A Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator, more commonly referred to as a TENS unit, is a small, battery-powered, portable muscle and nerve stimulation machine that can be used at home to help control pain. A TENS unit is often times recommended to assist in reducing neuropathic pain, but is not suggested for those with chronic pain.
  • Ice and Heat Therapy
Depending upon the severity of your condition, both ice and heat can reduce pain or the inflammation of injured muscles and nerves. Cold therapy is often the best immediate treatment for recent injuries. It helps reduce swelling and control pain immediately. In an acute injury, in the first 48 hours, you must use ice for no more than 20 minutes at a time, never heat initially. Unlike cold therapy, heat therapy is generally used for those with chronic pain from previous injuries. Heat therapy not only reduces the patients' pain, but it also relaxes the sore, stiff muscles and/or joints and increases circulation. In chronic injuries, icing for 20 minutes & applying heat directly after has also been proven very beneficial.

Prevention & Rehabilitation Exercises

Enhance your chiropractic care with additional physiotherapy treatments offered at Huey Chiropractic. Therapeutic exercises and stretching compliment your subluxation correction procedures and speed up your body's healing process.

In Huey Chiropractic's effort to prevent future conditions and promote health, treatment and rehabilitation, our professionals suggest specific strengthening exercises and stretches for patients with back, neck and other body extremity problems. When prescribed along with manipulation or other chiropractic care, these exercises can reduce pain, protect against new or recurring injuries, prevent muscle deterioration and promote strength, stability and range of motion.

Dr. Huey will ensure you are performing your exercises and stretches correctly so that you can do them in the comfort of your own home. The prescribed exercises can also be done in the office in the rehabilitation room. By keeping up with your rehabilitation and corrective exercises and stretches you can accelerate your healing process and prevent scar tissue from forming. Even after you heal, maintaining a regular exercise and stretch program encourages mobility, flexibility and protects you from new injuries.
